After a loooong (very long, a lot longer than it should really) sleep, we're back to life! That's right, ladies and gentlemen: MyGuestmap is back to the drawing board, and you can expect new things coming up on the months to come. We also took this moment to fix some things that were broken. So feel free to drop your comments (via our contact e-mail), requests, desires and rants.

DonateWare

MyGuestmap now supports DonateWare: a fund raising project that allows anyone to set up their own fund raising campaigns, and collects a small percentage of the donations to non-profit organizations and social work. You, MyGuestmap user, can profit from that initiative! If you own a map for, let's say, your local charity institution, your own open source software project, or just your own discussion forum and would like to receive contributions to keep your project running, MyGuestmap will now allow you to place a "support us" button on your map, automatically linking it to your own DonateWare campaign! Good for you, good for us, good for everyone. ;)

'Mouse Over' fixed

We finally got around one of the oldest and more annoying bugs on MyGuestmap - the one that generated javascript errors when using accented characters on the 'mouse over marker' mode (which is used by the embeddable map, by the way). Thanks for hablemosdecine and everyone else that pointed it out for us! The main problem was related to the third-party javascript lib we used. But now we've switched to something more stable, so goodbye dofus javascript poblems! Keep on mappin'! ;)

Overview Maps

One small but sometimes necessary feature: now you can activate a small overview map on your admin area. The overview map is a kind of 'thumbnail' of the map, that shows up on the bottom left corner of the map and allows users to see where they are, when zooming in too close. Try it out, it can be really useful! :)

A kind of late feature is now available: when logging in, you can mark the 'remember me on this computer' checkbox to remain logged on your computer. Please note: you have to have cookies enabled for this to work correctly!

New feature just implemented! Some users have been receiving spam markers now you can activate a CAPTCHA validation on your map. A CAPTCHA is a piece of random text encoded as an image, which must be typed in by the user when submitting a marker in order to prevent automatic submit (from spam software, for instance). To activate CAPTCHA, all you need to do is go to your admin page and select 'yes' on the 'Show Captcha to validate input ' option!

Unexpected downtime today

MyGuestmap was offline today for around 2 hours (11 PM - 1 AM GMT), due to some unexpected server configuration errors. That downtime included the blog, by the way...

Embed a map on your own page!

Until today, MyGuestmap only allowed you to add a link to open up your map, or a little funky button ( ). The more webdesignerish among us found a way to do the iframe-trick, to show the map on their pages. But now you can show your map yourself on any page you like, with (almost) no html knowledge: just copy+paste this piece of html (actually a Javascript) you'll find on the admin area (under 'Usage Tips'):

Map owners, rejoice!

Finally implemented one of the most requested features ever: now the users are able to edit or delete the markers they placed, with no need to ask for the map owner's help. To activate that feature on your map, just go to the admin area. The new option is called 'Allow users to edit/delete own markers'. Enjoy! :)

The official storyline of MyGuestmap. We're almost two years old, now.. :)

Version 2.0 (Feb 28, 2007): MyGuestmap was entirely rewritten in a lighter programming language, so hopefully everything will run smoother (and new features will be easier to implement). We now support the Italian language too (thanks, David!)
Version 1.99 (Oct 10, 2006): Support to address search on all the regions that Google Maps supports. Find your home and put a marker on it fast as 1, 2, 3!
Version 1.9 (Sep 26, 2006): New configuration: background color is now customizeable!
Version 1.8 (Sep 24, 2006): Conversion to GoogleMaps 2.0 + bugfixes.
Version 1.8 (Apr 06, 2006): Minor performance upgrades and bugfixes.
Version 1.7 (March 5, 2006): Flickr integration - now you can show your geotagged flickr photos on MyGuestmap!
Version 1.6 (February 26, 2006): Photo uploading!
Version 1.5 (February 25, 2006): A new admin session and new features for registered users: support for password-protected guestmaps and customized marker input forms!
Version 1.4 (February 18, 2006): Small bug fixes (kml download, maximum number of markers). Ability to edit existing markers on admin area!
Version 1.3 (February 4, 2006): Several usability enhancements and 'remember password' feature (finally!).
Version 1.2 (November 19, 2005): Admin-only post mode (create maps where only you can place markers!), six new iconsets for you to choose, map view on admin area (so you can see the pins you are deleting). To control bandwidth usage, we had to add a maximum number of shown markers on a map for 500, for unregistered (non-donating) users.
Version 1.1 (November 06, 2005): Several minor bug fixes and some changes on admin area.
Version 1.0 (October 22, 2005): Guestmap goes live on it's own domain address, on a much more stable web server. Thanks to the people who donated and allowed us to move to this new home, and for Yvonne for the cool guestmap pin!!! :)
Version 0.8 (August 15, 2005): More bug fixing and usage improvements (thanks to Joshua for the help on bug fixing!)
Version 0.7 (August 10, 2005): Several bug fixing and usage improvements (thanks to everyone's feedback!)
Version 0.6 (August 6, 2005): French support added (corrections by Christophe Mendez - tks a lot!!!). Google earth export in alpha release! Thanks to Stefan for the feature suggestion! Added support for viewing guestmap messages with no need to click on the markers (powered by TLabel)
